Thyroid Disorders

There are many types of thyroid disorders that involve abnormal production in the thyroid, either excessive amounts, known as hyperthyroidism or insufficient amounts known as hypothyroidism. Thyroid disorders can largely be managed if diagnosed and treated.

Causes of hyperthyroid disorders include Graves’ disease, toxic adenomas, subacute thyroiditis, and pituitary gland malfunctions.

Possible symptoms of hyperthyroidism may include:

• Anxiety
• Apathy
• Atrial Fibrillaiton
• Delirium
• Depression
• Diarrhea
• Fatigue
• Hair Loss
• Hyperactivity
• Intolerance to Heat
• Irritability
• Loss of Libido
• Nausea
• Osteoporosis
• Palpitations
• Polydispa
• Polyuria
• Pretibial Myxedema
• Shortness of Breath
• Sweating
• Tremor
• Vomiting
• Weakness
• Weight Loss

Causes of hypothyroidism include Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, removal of thyroid gland, excessive exposure to iodide, and lithium.

Possible symptoms of hypothyroidism may include:

• Abnormal Menstrual Symptoms
• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
• Cold Intolerance
• Constipation
• Decreased Sweating
• Depression
• Dry Puffy Facial Skin
• Dry, Itchy Skin
• Fatigue
• Goiter
• Hoarse Voice
• Joint Pain
• Low Basal Body Temperature
• Low Heart Rate
• Muscle Pain
• Paleness
• Poor Muscle tone
• Thin Brittle Fingernails
• Thin Brittle Hair
• Thinning of Outer Third of Eyebrow
• Water Retention
