Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)

Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is also known as peripheral artery disease (PAD), and peripheral occlusive disease (PAOD). PVD is a category of diseases that is caused by the obstruction of arteries in the arms and legs that causes a lack of blood supply. Factors that contribute to PVD include atherosclerosis, inflammation, stenosis, embolism, and thrombus formations. Causes of PVD include smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, hypertension, age of 50 or over, obesity, heart attack and stroke.

Possible symptoms of peripheral vascular disease may include:

• Blueness or Paleness of Affected Area
• Cramping
• Decreased Blood Flow
• Gangrene
• Pain During Rest
• Pain With Movement
• Reduction in Hair and Nail Growth in Affected Area
• Slow or Nonexistent Healing
• Sores
• Temperature Drop of Affected Area
• Ulcers
• Weakness
• Wounds
