Headaches

There are many types of headaches with varying causes and symptoms.

Tension headaches, or chronic daily headaches, are characterized by muscle contractions that result in mild to moderate pain.

Mixed headache syndrome, also known as transformed headaches, are a combination of migraine and tension headaches.

Migraines are related to the constriction of blood vessels in the brain, as well as genetic abnormalities of the brain. Pain can range from moderate to severe, and can last from a few hours to a few days and usually occurs one to four times per month.

Possible symptoms of migraine headaches may include:

• Pounding Throbbing Pain
• Sensitivity to Noise, Light, Odors
• Nausea or Vomiting
• Loss of Appetite
• Abdominal Pain
• Dizziness
• Blurred vision

Cluster headaches are the most severe type of headache with intense pain that may be burning, piercing, throbbing, or constant. The extreme pain is often located behind one eye and occurs during attacks one to three times per day during a cluster period which could last two weeks to three months.

Sinus headaches are characterized by pain the cheekbones, forehead and nose that increases when suddenly moving the head. Sinus headaches often occur with sinus symptoms such as nasal discharge, fever, fullness in the ears, and facial swelling.
