Chronic Lower Back Pain

Whether it is caused by a bad fall, sports injury, job-related incident, arthritis, or car accident, back pain that continues beyond three months is categorized as chronic. Back pain can be the result of a strain, bulging or herniated disks, sciatica (causes pain in the buttock and back of the leg), osteoarthritis, or scoliosis which is a curvature of the spine.

Chronic back pain can cause a variety of different symptoms such as achy muscles, pain that can be described as shooting or stabbing, and pain that radiates down one or both legs. Patients may also experience weakness, numbness or tingling in their legs. Chronic pain can also lead to a decreased range of motion and flexibility in the back. Many patients have a difficult time maintaining proper posture.
